De Ligt’s time at Ajax was particularly impressive under the management of current United boss Erik ten Hag. He captained Ajax to a league and cup double in 2019 and was a key player in their impressive Champions League run to the semi-finals. Given the strong relationship and trust between de Ligt and ten Hag from their time at Ajax, it is likely that the manager would be eager for a reunion with the defender in Manchester this summer.
