United Group Launches Largest Optical Network Project in Southeast Europe, Promoting Digitalization and Enhancing Connectivity

United Group, a leading telecommunications company in Southeast Europe, has announced the launch of its largest optical network project to date. Called “United Fiber,” the network will span across four European markets – Greece, Bulgaria, Croatia, and Slovenia. The project will receive an initial investment of 450 million euros from Telemach Hrvatska telecom, which is owned by United Group.

The “United Fiber” network will consist of 60 thousand kilometers of core and metro infrastructure that will reach 3.6 million households in the four markets. The goal is to meet the high demand for transit in key markets while connecting Europe with the Middle East and Asia.

After successfully establishing United Fiber in Greece in 2021, the Group continues to consolidate its fixed line infrastructure in Bulgaria, Croatia, and Slovenia. This move demonstrates their expertise in building and implementing modern fixed infrastructure.

United Group Vice President for Technology, Žjko Batistić, spoke about the group’s vision to become the preferred brand for users, business clients, and the public sector to contribute to society’s digitalization. He highlighted the significant progress made in Serbia over the past two decades and emphasized their commitment to innovation and progress through efforts to enhance connectivity and digitalization in the region.

The total investment in “United Fiber” is set at 450 million euros for the period 2024-2028. The Group aims to deliver 475,000 new optical connectors for households in 2024 with similar projections for subsequent years. They plan to enhance accessibility for users and strengthen their presence in the market by implementing this plan effectively.
