Unions Vow to Fight New Unemployment Insurance Reform: Will France’s Political Leaders Heed their Call?

The CFDT is committed to preventing unemployment insurance reform at all costs

In response to the new unemployment insurance reform, Marylise Léon, leader of the CFDT union, has vowed to take all necessary measures to prevent its implementation. The FO union has also expressed its intent to challenge the decree before the Council of State.

The Prime Minister recently announced a tightening of unemployment insurance compensation rules with a decree expected to be issued on July 1 and set to come into force on December 1. This move has faced criticism from unions, political parties, and groups across the political spectrum.

The upcoming reform includes changes such as reducing the duration of compensation to 15 months, increasing the required months of work to qualify for compensation, and introducing an “employment bonus senior.” The Liot group plans to introduce a bill in the National Assembly to block this reform.

Marylise Léon emphasized the importance of having a debate on this reform in Parliament. She called for a sincere debate and urged lawmakers to understand the impact of these changes on real people.
