UniCredit and Mastercard team up to create inclusive payment cards for the visually impaired

Unicredit launches a credit card specifically designed for the blind

UniCredit, a leading bank in Europe, has announced its partnership with Mastercard to introduce new payment cards designed specifically for blind and visually impaired individuals. The cards feature Mastercard Touch Card technology, which includes lateral engravings that can be felt by touch, making it easier for users to identify the correct card. This innovation will provide a more accessible payment solution for over 30 million blind and partially sighted individuals in Europe and 1 in 30 Europeans experiencing vision issues.

In line with UniCredit’s commitment to sustainability, the cards are made from recycled PVC and come with a Mastercard sustainability badge. This move demonstrates UniCredit’s dedication to providing simple, inclusive, and sustainable financial experiences to customers across Europe.

The partnership between UniCredit and Mastercard underscores both companies’ commitment to driving new payment card standards that address the diverse needs of customers. With this innovative solution, customers with visual impairments can make payments online or in stores with greater safety, inclusiveness, and independence.

Mark Barnett, President of Mastercard Europe, highlighted the company’s commitment to inclusivity through this partnership with UniCredit. By working together, both companies aim to improve accessibility for all customers through customer-centric solutions that promote sustainability and support the financial well-being of all individuals.
