In a thrilling second-round match in Paris, defending champion Iga Swiatek managed to avoid an early exit from the French Open by saving a match point against Naomi Osaka. The 22-year-old Polish player fought back to win 7-6 1-6 7-5 in a closely contested match that was described as intense by both players.
Ons Jabeur, an eighth seed, also had her hands full in another exciting match against Camila Osorio. The Tunisian player, seeking her first Grand Slam title, struggled for consistency amidst numerous breaks of serve. However, she managed to hold her nerve and secure a hard-fought victory over Osorio with a score of 6-3 1-6 6-3.
Swiatek praised both players for their high level of play and emphasized the quality of the match. Osaka, who recently returned to the sport after having a daughter, pushed Swiatek to her limits but ultimately came up short. Jabeur’s ability to hold her nerve and stay composed under pressure proved crucial in her victory.
As they continue their quest for a maiden Grand Slam title, Jabeur will face either Leylah Fernandez or Wang Xiyu in the next round. The Court Philippe Chatrier crowd was treated to a spectacle of great tennis as the two stars battled it out on the clay court.
