The recent leg of the T20 World Cup in New York concluded on Wednesday with India’s win over the USA. The matches will now move to Lauderhill’s Central Broward Park where three fixtures in Group A remain. Co-hosts USA, Ireland, Canada, and Pakistan are all vying for a spot in the Super 8s alongside India.
Despite the challenges posed by tropical storms and flooding, organisers are unlikely to move the games from Florida. Warnings of “excessive rainfall” have been issued for Friday morning, when the USA is scheduled to face Ireland. While groundstaff at Central Broward Park are working to dry the field after removing the covers, it is unlikely that teams will be able to train outdoors before the match. The stadium’s good drainage facilities provide hope that the games can go ahead if the weather cooperates.
The only other game scheduled to take place at Lauderhill was abandoned without a ball being bowled on June 11th, when Sri Lanka’s match against Nepal was called off due to heavy rainfall. In light of this, it is highly improbable that the International Cricket Council would move the remaining fixtures to another venue at such short notice. The outcome of these games will determine which teams advance to the Super 8s, with the USA currently favored to qualify in second place.
