Unexpected Turbine Failure at Olkiluoto 3 Nuclear Plant Interrupts Power Production, TVO Investigates Cause

Electricity production at Olkiluoto 3 was halted

On Monday, the power production at the Olkiluoto 3 nuclear power plant was interrupted due to a turbine failure at 11:41 a.m. TVO is currently investigating the cause of the issue. Despite the interruption, the plant unit was operating normally when the failure occurred and responded as designed to the electricity production disruption.

In addition to Olkiluoto 3, the Olkiluoto 1 nuclear power plant is also not in operation due to annual maintenance. The maintenance of Olkiluoto 1 has been delayed by a few weeks, with an estimated completion date of June 16. The delay is due to a fault detected in the generator during maintenance, prompting further investigations and repair plans.

However, Olkiluoto 2 has completed its annual maintenance and is currently producing electricity at a capacity of 880 megawatts. Despite issues at Olkiluoto 1 and 3 plants, Olkiluoto 2 is operating normally and contributing seamlessly to power production. TVO is working promptly to address the interruptions at Olkiluoto 3 in order to resume power generation as soon as possible.
