Undrafted Gems: How Patriots Add Former Ohio State Linebacker Steele Chambers to Their Roster and What it Means for the Team

Patriots sign LB Steele Chambers, release LB Jay Person

On Tuesday, the Patriots made some adjustments to their roster by claiming linebacker Steele Chambers off waivers. In order to make room for Chambers, the team waived linebacker Jay Person from the 90-man roster.

Chambers, a former Ohio State player, had previously been let go by the Lions when they signed linebacker Ben Niemann. Despite being an undrafted player, Chambers had impressive stats during his time with the Buckeyes, accumulating 207 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, three sacks, four interceptions, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery over the last three seasons.

Meanwhile, Jay Person was another undrafted player this year who had played college football at Appalachian State and Chattanooga before trying to make a mark in the professional ranks. It will be interesting to see how these roster changes affect the Patriots moving forward in the upcoming season.
