UN Security Council Urges Israel to Increase Efforts for Humanitarian Aid in Gaza Amidst Dire Situation

UN Security Council urges Israel to eliminate all hindrances to the delivery of aid to Gaza

The UN Security Council has recently acknowledged Israel’s efforts to increase the flow of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip. This includes opening cargo flows through the Erez crossing and delivering aid through the port of Ashdod. However, the council has also called on Israel to do more in removing obstacles to aid delivery to address the needs of the civilian population in Gaza.

The Security Council members expressed deep concern about the significant loss of life, dire humanitarian situation, and looming threat of famine in Gaza. The ongoing conflict has had a devastating impact on the population. Despite efforts to deliver humanitarian aid, there are still trucks waiting at the Kerem Shalom checkpoint to enter the Palestinian side.

Major General Rasan Alian, coordinator of government activities in the territories, cited delays in aid delivery due to challenges with the UN Relief Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). Alian urged the UN to expedite the distribution of aid to those in need and not blame Israel for delays. Israel has delivered over 1,200 trucks of aid to Gaza in the past three days, and more trucks are waiting to cross into the territory. The focus should be on ensuring that aid reaches those who require it most efficiently.
