Ukraine’s Energy System Under Attack: President Zelensky Urges Citizens to Conserve Electricity

Zelensky urges energy conservation efforts

President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine has appealed to citizens to conserve electricity in light of the damage inflicted on the country’s power grid. He emphasized the importance of a thoughtful and rational approach to energy consumption. The Ukrainian government urged municipalities and energy suppliers to provide information about the necessity of temporary power cuts.

In his address, Zelensky acknowledged the difficult situation facing Ukraine’s energy system, which has been repeatedly targeted by Russian forces. He stated that Russia had caused significant damage to Ukraine’s electricity production through air strikes in March and April, leaving more than 40 percent of its generation capacity disabled. This has led to regionally distributed power cuts lasting several hours, which have become a familiar sight for Ukrainian citizens during the ongoing conflict with Russia.

The Ukrainian government is working tirelessly to strengthen its energy supply and prevent further damage from Russian attacks. However, specific details about these efforts are not yet available. Despite this setback, Zelensky remains optimistic that Ukraine will recover and emerge stronger from this conflict.
