UK Government’s Science and Technology Framework: Promoting R&D Across Departments and Sectors

Construction of Science and Technology Framework Delayed

The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology was established a year ago with the goal of integrating research and development (R&D) practices across the government. To solidify the UK’s position as a science and technology leader, the department introduced the Science and Technology Framework in March 2023. Although it did not garner widespread attention, the framework outlined a comprehensive strategy to incorporate science and innovation throughout various government sectors.

Ten areas of action were identified, each with specific responsibilities assigned to each department to contribute to this overarching goal. Now, progress and impact are being evaluated to determine the success of this initiative in promoting R&D activities within the government. Researchers and policy experts are closely monitoring outcomes to assess its effectiveness in advancing scientific advancements and innovations across the UK.
