UIndy Softball Wins Midwest Title, Secures Spot in “World Series”

The No. 2 UIndy softball team secured a spot in the NCAA Division II Championship by defeating 21st-ranked Trevecca Nazarene in game three of the Midwest Super Regional with a score of 6-0. The DII “World Series” will take place in Orlando, Fla. starting on Sunday, May 19, featuring eight region champions including the Greyhounds, who are making their third appearance and first since 2015. Their first game will be against the Atlantic Region champions, Charleston Golden Eagles, on Sunday, May 19 at 1:30 p.m. ET, with the championship game scheduled for Saturday, May 25.

In the deciding game of the Super Regional, pitcher Kenzee Smith delivered an outstanding performance, allowing just one hit and two walks in a complete-game shutout. Smith also contributed at the plate, driving in a run with a single in the second inning. The team’s lead expanded to three runs in the fourth inning, and further extended to six runs after a three-run surge in the fifth. Smith hit an RBI double, and Emily O’Connor added a run-scoring double in the following inning. Each member of the team’s lineup contributed, with eight Greyhounds recording at least one hit.
