UConn Health Raises the Rainbow Pride Flag: Supporting the LGBTQIA+ Community through Education and Activism

UConn Health Celebrates Pride

Recently, UConn Health has been committed to providing healthcare to all members of the community, including those who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer/questioning+. The students from Reach Out, a student organization at UConn Health dedicated to LGBTQIA+ awareness, education and activism in the medical and dental communities, raised the Pride flag on campus.

The event was supported by UConn Health leadership, including CEO Dr. Andy Agwunobi and Chief Diversity Officer Dr. Jeffrey Hines. Faculty advisor Zita Lazzarini JD MPH was also present along with Internal Medicine Resident Dr. Nicholas Harriel and Ian Shick from the Rainbow Center at UConn.

Captain Anthony Ruggiero and Deputy Chief Christopher Renshaw from the UConn Fire Department’s as well as UConn Police Officer Nolan Hurst assisted in the flag raising event. As part of its commitment to this community, this month UConn Health has illuminated its campus in rainbow colors to show support for the LGBTQIA+ community.

Reach Out aims to bring students of all gender and sexual identities together, serve the greater Hartford community and educate future clinicians on providing excellent patient care. To learn more about UConn Health’s LGBTQIA+ services visit their website.
