College of Science and Engineering at UCA founded

UCA President Houston Davis has praised the recent establishment of the College of Science and Engineering at the University of Central Arkansas. The college, which was announced during a board of trustees meeting on May 21, consists of seven departments, including Biology, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Computer Science and Engineering, Environmental Science, Geography, Mathematics, and the recently renamed Department of Physics, Astronomy, and Engineering.

The engineering physics program was first introduced at UCA in the fall of 2019 and has since seen significant growth in enrollment. This growth has been driven by the university’s latest ABET accreditation for the engineering physics program. As part of this accreditation process, one of the seven departments within the college has been renamed from the Department of Physics and Astronomy to the Department of Physics, Astronomy, and Engineering.

According to Stephen Addison, dean of the College of Science and Engineering, these upgrades are meant to meet the needs of current students while also creating new opportunities for the future. The changes are designed to highlight the programs available within the college and attract more students seeking an engineering education.

Overall, UCA’s commitment to excellence in providing education in science and engineering fields is reflected in this achievement. The establishment of
