UAW Local 869 Authorizes Potential Strike at Stellantis’ Warren Stamping Plant Due to Concerns Over Health and Safety

UAW Local 869 members at Stellantis’ Warren Stamping Plant in Michigan have authorized a potential strike due to concerns over nonworking fans and bathroom sanitation. This vote by the union, which represents over 1,000 workers, does not guarantee a strike but increases pressure during ongoing grievance negotiations.

The plant supplies parts to various plants across the United States, Canada, and Mexico that manufacture vehicles like the Dodge Durango, Chrysler Pacifica, Ram trucks, Jeep Gladiator, Grand Cherokee, Wrangler, Wagoneer, and Grand Wagoneer. However, an exact number of votes in favor of a strike was not disclosed and it is unclear when any potential strike action may take place.

Stellantis has stated that discussions with the UAW are still ongoing and employees are currently working. The company remains committed to providing a safe work environment and resolving the issues raised by the union without causing a work stoppage.

A video shared by the union on social media highlights various concerns such as oil leaks and unsanitary conditions inside the plant. UAW Local 869 President Romaine McKinney III emphasized the importance of resolving health and safety grievances to ensure that workers feel valued and respected in the workplace. Another member, Chautay Smith, stressed the significance of standing together to address these issues that impact their livelihood and well-being.
