U.S. Archery World Cup: Lutz Shocks Defending Champion Fullerton, Advances to Semifinals

Lopez, an Eight-time champion, schedules first arena appearance of 2024

Lutz, a former world champion, stunned defending circuit champion Mathias Fullerton in their quarterfinal match at the Hyundai Archery World Cup in Yecheon. The two archers tied with 148 points in regulation, but Lutz emerged victorious with a better shot during the tiebreaker. This marked Lutz’s third stage win, having won twice in 2019 when he won the worlds and once in 2022. Despite his success on the circuit, he has yet to advance past the first match in the Hyundai Archery World Cup Final.

In the semifinals at Yecheon, Lutz will face fellow US archer Sullivan. Sullivan expressed admiration for Lutz and looked up to him throughout his archery career. The windy conditions at Yecheon presented a challenge for many archers during the competition, but world number one Schloesser was able to use it to his advantage and gain confidence in his performance.

The competition continues with mixed team eliminations on Friday morning followed by recurve eliminations in the afternoon. The archers are excited for the upcoming matches and hope for continued success in this beautiful and challenging range in Yecheon.
