Turning the Tide: Durham County Launches Free Gun Lock Giveaway Amid Surge in Violence

Free Gun Locks to be Given Away by Durham County’s Public Health Department

The Durham County Department of Public Health and the county District Attorney’s Office are working together to host a free gun lock giveaway as part of NC S.A.F.E week of action, which runs from Sunday, June 2 to Saturday, June 8. The initiative aims to raise awareness about the importance of securely storing firearms and prevent them from falling into the wrong hands.

The giveaway will take place at the Durham County Courthouse on Dillard Street from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4. This is an opportunity for community members to pick up a gun lock and help keep firearms secure and out of harm’s way.

The City of Durham has seen an increase in gun violence, particularly among young people, according to data from the city’s police department. This giveaway is a proactive step to promote gun safety and prevent tragic incidents involving firearms.

We encourage residents to take advantage of this opportunity to pick up a free gun lock and help make Durham a safer place for everyone by securing their firearms properly. Join us on Tuesday, June 4, at the Durham County Courthouse on Dillard Street from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., and learn more about how you can protect your loved ones from the dangers of unsecured firearms during NC SAF
