Tropical Storms Wreak Havoc on T20 World Cup: USA Advances, Ireland and Pakistan Eliminated

USA advances to T20 World Cup Super 8s as Ireland, Pakistan, and Canada bow out

The Super 8s at the T20 World Cup have been joined by the USA after their game against Ireland in Florida was abandoned due to heavy rainfall caused by tropical storms that left the outfield unplayable. This has resulted in the elimination of Ireland, Pakistan, and Canada from the tournament.

The USA, making their tournament debut, now has a point for the washout, taking them to five points from four fixtures in Group B. This puts them ahead of winless Ireland as well as Pakistan and Canada who were unable to match their points total.

The co-hosts India are also progressing from the pool and will play South Africa, West Indies, and either defending champions England or Scotland in Super 8s Group 2 next week. The USA started off strong with a win against Canada before pulling off a stunning upset against Pakistan in a Super Over. They then faced a competitive match against India before experiencing an abandoned match with Ireland which ultimately cost them their spot in the Super 8s.

Pakistan suffered a shock loss to USA before losing six runs in reverse against India. Despite winning over Canada, they were unable to recover from their losses and were eventually eliminated from the tournament. Ireland will be looking for their first win of the tournament when they face Pakistan in Florida while India will play against Canada in their final group stage match.

India will move on to Super 8s Group 1 along with 2021 champions Australia and Afghanistan, as well as one of Bangladesh, Netherlands or Nepal who are still fighting for advancement from Group D.
