Ramla Ali of Britain is defeated by Yamileth Mercado in WBC world title fight.

In Arizona, Britain’s Ramla Ali faced off against Yamileth Mercado from Mexico for the WBC World Super Bantamweight title. Despite Ali’s hopes for her first world title, Mercado emerged victorious with a unanimous points decision. Mercado, who has held the title since 2019, outshone Ali and defended her belt for the seventh time with scores of 98-92, 98-93, 97-93 in her favor.

Meanwhile, British boxer Sunny Edwards secured a unanimous points victory against Adrian Curiel in a flyweight match. Edwards dominated the scorecards with 90-82, 88-84, 87-85. However, the fight was prematurely called off by the ringside doctor due to a cut on Edwards’ right eye caused by an accidental clash of heads.

Jesse Rodriguez also made history in Arizona as he maintained his unbeaten record with a knockout win over Juan Estrada to become the new WBC and Ring Magazine super flyweight world champion. Despite experiencing his first knockdown in the fifth round, Rodriguez emerged victorious with a devastating body punch in the seventh round. Reflecting on the fight, Rodriguez expressed his satisfaction with the outcome and his resilience after hitting the canvas for the first time in his career.
