Triple Threat: Washington Township Middle School’s Science, English and Social Studies Teams Outshine the Competition at the Indiana Academic Super Bowl-Jr. Division

Science Takes Top Spot at State Championship; English & Social Studies Place Second in Academic Super Bowl Competition

Washington Township Middle School’s Academic Teams had an outstanding performance at the Indiana Academic Super Bowl-Jr. Division competition, with the Science Team winning the 2024 Class 4 State Championship and both the English and Social Studies Teams being named State Runner-Ups.

The WTMS Science Team, consisting of Addison Peres (captain), Jacob Barker, and Kirk VarnHagen, clinched the Class 4 State title with a score of 22 out of 25 questions answered correctly. This was the school’s tenth Science State championship and its fourth consecutive win. The English Team, led by Stephen Cannon (captain), Karson Kish, and Liam Swiatkowski, achieved a score of 22 out of 25 questions answered correctly to earn the title of Class 4 English Runner-Up. Meanwhile, the Social Studies Team, including Addison Peres (captain), McKenna Bouchee, and Karson Kish, was recognized as the Class Social Studies Runner-Up with a score of 18 out of 25 questions answered correctly.

Washington Township Middle School’s Academic Teams have a remarkable record of 24 Academic State Championships in just 19 years of competition, making them one of the most successful middle schools in Porter County and among all middle schools in the state.
