Trina Solar forges ahead in European solar market with new partnership and research center

Solar technology research collaboration between Trina Solar and IES-UPM

Trina Solar, a leading Chinese solar manufacturer, has recently announced a partnership with European academic talent to enhance their R&D capabilities. This collaboration will enable Trina Solar to offer tailored energy solutions to the European market. In addition, Trina Solar plans to establish a training center at IES-UPM, equipped with solar modules, trackers and potentially battery energy storage systems (BESS), to support the development of solar energy in the region.

IES-UPM is a renowned research institution established in 1979 that focuses on practical applications of solar PV technology. Their future research endeavors will focus on areas such as cost-effective silicon purification methods, development of new solar PV materials and innovative structures for highly efficient tandem cells, more effective strategies for demand management, and exploring the use of batteries for seamless integration of technology into the electricity grid.

Trina Solar’s impressive growth can be attributed to their top ranking as one of China’s top solar manufacturers, just behind JA Solar. Last year alone, they shipped over 65GW of modules, an increase from 43.1GW in 2022 representing a remarkable 51.3% year-on-year growth. By the end of the first quarter of 2024, Trina Solar had already shipped over 205GW of modules solidifying their position as a key player in the global solar industry.
