Tri-State Community Health Center Receives Grant to Continue Serving Underserved in Tennessee’s 9th District: Congressman Cohen Urges State to Expand Medicaid for Full Access to Healthcare

Congressman Cohen Reveals $1.4 Million Grant Awarded to Tri-State Community Health Center

Tri-State Community Health Center in Tennessee’s 9th district has received a grant of $1,416,200 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to continue providing essential services to the underserved population. Congressman Steve Cohen from the same district emphasized the critical need for these services, especially for individuals who do not have access to affordable health insurance due to Tennessee’s decision not to expand its Medicaid program, TennCare.

Cohen commended Tri-State Community Health Center for its dedication and hard work in serving the community and expressed his satisfaction that the organization was awarded funding to continue providing essential services. He also criticized Tennessee’s failure to expand Medicaid, which places a burden on financially strained hospitals that provide uncompensated care and prevents residents from fully benefiting from a federal program they are already contributing to through their tax dollars.

The congressman expressed concern for these underserved individuals and highlighted the importance of healthcare access for all members of society. He urged Tennessee officials to reconsider their stance on Medicaid expansion and prioritize the health and wellbeing of their constituents. The grant will allow Tri-State Community Health Center to further support and assist those in need within the community, ensuring that everyone has access to quality healthcare services.
