Q&A Session with Science Reporter Ivan Semeniuk: Get Your Solar Eclipse Questions Answered

A rare astronomical event is about to take place in North America on April 8 as the country will be cast into shadow by a total eclipse of the sun. The spectacle will be witnessed by many areas in central and eastern Canada, while the rest of the country will experience a deep partial eclipse. Enthusiasts are expected to gather in areas where the event will be most visible, as this won’t happen again in Canada until 2044.

Ivan Semeniuk, The Globe and Mail’s science reporter, is hosting a Q&A session on April 3 at 2 p.m. ET to answer questions and provide guidance on safe eclipse viewing. Ivan, who has witnessed multiple total solar eclipses, including one in 1979, shared his experience and excitement leading up to the upcoming event. A viewing guide on how to best observe the eclipse will also be provided.

To participate in the Q&A session, subscribers can log into their Globe account and submit questions in the comments section. Registered users can read the questions and responses as well. Ivan will address questions about the ideal viewing locations, what to expect during the eclipse for those outside the totality path, and information about future eclipses around the world.
