Topping the World in Accounting Education Research: The University of Scranton’s Dedication to Excellence in Academic Publishing

Research Conducted by Accounting Department Ranked among the most productive worldwide

The University of Scranton’s Accounting Department and its faculty members have once again been recognized for their outstanding research contributions in the field of accounting education. According to a recent report, the department was ranked No. 11 in the world for accounting education research published in peer-reviewed journals over the past six years.

Individual faculty members were also recognized for their research achievements, with Douglas M. Boyle, professor and chair of the Accounting Department, being ranked No. 5 in the world for accounting education publication volume. James F. Boyle, associate professor of accounting, was ranked No. 25.

This marks the fourth consecutive year that the department has been recognized as one of the top research publishers globally in Brigham Young University’s prestigious Accounting Rankings. The report evaluates accounting programs and faculty based on their publication success in top-tier accounting journals, highlighting the department’s commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and service.

Dean Mark Higgins of the Kania School of Management commended the department for its consistent excellence in research and emphasized its dedication to making significant contributions to the accounting profession through its research efforts. In 2020, one academic journal recognized it as the top institution for number of publications in leading practitioner journals, further underscoring this ongoing recognition.

Overall, this accomplishment highlights not only our department’s but also our institution’s commitment to providing students with a top-notch education while also advancing knowledge in the field of accounting through groundbreaking research contributions by our dedicated faculty members.
