The PGA Championship, already delayed due to a tragic incident involving a pedestrian outside the golf club, was further delayed when top-ranked golfer Scottie Scheffler was arrested by police on his way to the event. According to ESPN, a police officer approached Scheffler’s car as he was driving to Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky. The officer asked Scheffler to exit his vehicle and then placed him in handcuffs.

The 29th highest-paid athlete in the world, earning $59.2 million from wins on the PGA Tour and endorsements with Nike, TaylorMade, and Veritex Bank, is the 2024 Masters Tournament champion. In 2023, he set the regular-season PGA Tour record for on-course earnings with $21 million. The incident occurred after a misunderstanding with officials following a traffic incident that resulted in a pedestrian’s death.
