Tight End Darren Waller: Balancing Career Goals with Team Preparation

Darren Waller to carefully consider retirement decision before finalizing choice

Darren Waller, the tight end for the Giants, has previously mentioned in March that he would be making a decision on his future soon. However, a month later, Waller says he will be taking his time before making a decision on whether to retire. He expressed the need to be fully committed to the grind and ensure that he is bringing his best to the team. Waller wants to make sure that his decision, whether it be to retire or continue playing, allows the team to adequately prepare for next season.

The Giants are likely eager to know Waller’s decision before the NFL draft on April 25th. However, Waller mentioned that while it would be ideal to have a decision before then, he does not want to rush himself. He emphasized that he aims to make a decision before the team’s summer break on June 12th.

Waller did not indicate whether he will be participating in the voluntary offseason program, which starts on Monday. He has missed several games over the past three seasons and has spent this offseason working out in Las Vegas. There, he has been training with prospects and catching passes from Raiders quarterback Aidan O’Connell. As a precaution, the Giants have signed tight ends Jack Stoll and Chris Manhertz in free agency to cover all bases.

In March, Waller had expressed that he would be deciding on his future soon. However, now he is taking a more measured approach and wants to ensure that he makes an informed decision before retiring from football.

The Giants are likely eagerly awaiting Waller’s decision before April 25th when the NFL draft takes place. But it seems like they will have to wait until June 12th as Waller mentioned that while it would be ideal to have a decision by then
