Tiger Woods’ Journey to Resilience: From Major Victory to Lifetime Exemption

PGA Tour grants lifetime achievement exemption to Woods

Tiger Woods achieved his last major victory at the Masters tournament in 2019, marking his 82nd PGA Tour title and 15th major wins. However, the 48-year-old golfer has faced challenges with injuries in recent years. Despite these struggles, the PGA Tour has granted Woods a lifetime exemption to participate in all designated ‘signature’ events. This special exemption allows him to play in eight lucrative tournaments, though not in majors. Additionally, a new sponsor exemption has been created to honor Woods for reaching an exceptional milestone of over 80 career wins.

Woods currently shares the record for most PGA Tour victories with Sam Snead, and ranks second in major wins behind Jack Nicklaus. Since a car accident in February 2021 resulting in leg injuries and surgery, Woods has only competed in nine tournaments. His performance this year has been mixed, with one cut made at the Masters and withdrawals from other events due to illness and missed cuts.

Despite these challenges, Woods is expected to compete at the Open Championship in Scotland in July. The tournament will be a testament to his resilience and determination to continue playing golf at the highest level despite his injuries.
