Threatening the Future of Science Education: The Story Behind the Colorado Springs Rocket Society’s Financial Setback

Southern Colorado Science Club seeks community support

The Colorado Springs Rocket Society (COS Rocket Society) is facing a financial setback after a trailer filled with their equipment was stolen, resulting in a loss of $10,000. The theft occurred on May 26th at the Challenger Learning Center when a dark SUV was seen hauling the trailer away at around 11:33 am.

Among the stolen items were a control panel, fire extinguishers, and a launcher capable of sending 30 model rockets airborne simultaneously. Despite this unfortunate incident, the COS Rocket Society remains dedicated to their mission of using model rocket launches to educate others about physics, aerodynamics, and other science concepts.

For the past 30 years, the organization has been providing hands-on STEM education to schools, churches, and scouting clubs. President Dave Virgo expressed confidence in their ability to overcome this challenge and urged the community to support them in any way they can. He encouraged those interested in supporting their cause to visit their webpage for more information.

The COS Rocket Society is seeking information about the whereabouts of their stolen equipment and welcomes donations to help recover from the loss. Despite the financial setback, they remain committed to continuing their work of inspiring young minds through science education.
