The World’s Longest-Serving Flight Attendant: Bette Nash, American Airlines Legend Who Inspired Millions

American Airlines announced the passing of Bette Nash, the world’s longest-serving flight attendant, at the age of 88. She had been with the airline for nearly 70 years, holding the Guinness World Record for her longevity in the field. Ms. Nash began her career at Eastern Airlines in 1957 and worked on a shuttle flight between Washington DC and Boston, allowing her to return home every night. Despite initially planning to retire after a few years, she ended up staying and became a well-known figure to frequent flyers on the route.

Ms. Nash’s legacy as an iconic flight attendant will not be forgotten. In an interview with CBS News in 2017, she shared her perspective on her long career and expressed that everyone needs a little love. Unfortunately, Ms. Nash passed away on May 17th in a hospice after being diagnosed with breast cancer. The Association of Professional Flight Attendants, which represented her, expressed their sadness at her passing but also shared that she would always hold a special place in their history.
