The Village Closes: A Resource Center that Helped At-Risk Students Prepares to Shutdown with Federal Relief Expiring

Contemporary Learning Academy is home to The Village, a resource center that provides a range of services to students and families at six public schools in Denver. With federal pandemic relief for schools set to expire soon, The Village will close its doors on June 30th.

The middle and high schools served by the resource center are known as “pathways schools” and work with students who have struggled at traditional schools or are at risk of not graduating. Three years ago, The Village opened its doors at Contemporary Learning Academy, one of the pathways schools.

The Village was launched with grant funding and is now paid for by federal pandemic relief known as ESSER earmarked for schools. This school year, it cost $771,690 to run The Village. However, with that money set to expire, Denver Public Schools must commit the last of its pandemic relief dollars by September 30th. As a result, The Village will be closing down on June 30th.
