The Unlikely Reunion: Cowboys and Elliott Eye a Possible Partnership

Mutual Interest in Reunion Between Cowboys and Ezekiel Elliott Reported

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Cowboys and free agent running back Ezekiel Elliott are both interested in potentially reuniting. This news doesn’t come as a surprise given the Cowboys’ need for a veteran running back after letting Tony Pollard go in free agency and Elliott’s need for a job. However, even if they do sign Elliott, it’s likely that the Cowboys will still look to draft a running back to possibly start for them. Currently, the team has Rico Dowdle, Deuce Vaughn, Malik Davis, and Snoop Conner on their roster at the running back position.

Despite having career lows in several statistical categories last season, Elliott still led the team in rushing yards and receptions. Most of his work came in the final six weeks of the season due to an injury to Rhamondre Stevenson, where Elliott had significant touches and production. Selected fourth overall in the 2016 draft, Elliott has achieved Pro Bowl honors three times and led the league in rushing in two of his first three seasons. Although his performance has declined recently, he may see a reunion with his former team as a beneficial arrangement for both parties.
