The Steelers Offseason: Finding Their No. 2 Receiver for the 2024 Season

Will the Steelers bring in another receiver who can start?

The Steelers are currently in the midst of offseason changes, with their quarterback depth chart receiving a significant overhaul. As they prepare for the 2024 season, their main focus is on adding a “legit No. 2” receiver to complement their new quarterbacks. According to Mark Kaboly from TheAthletic.com, the Steelers will finalize this addition before the season begins.

The Steelers have several options when it comes to filling this role. Van Jefferson, Quez Watkins, Cordarrelle Patterson, Calvin Austin III, Scotty Miller, Marquez Callaway, and Denzel Mims are all potential candidates. Additionally, rookie third-rounder Roman Wilson could quickly develop into this position. While free agency offers limited options, notable names like Michael Thomas, Hunter Renfrow, Corey Davis and possibly Julio Jones could be pursued.

However, a trade is still a possibility for the Steelers. Hurdles such as Brandon Aiyuk’s contract demands and missed opportunities during the draft make it a less likely option. To ensure a seamless transition into their new system and make an immediate impact on offense without offseason activities or a complete training camp can be challenging.

The Steelers must act swiftly if they want to add a valuable piece to their offense before the start of the season. They must consider timing and other factors that may impact their ability to find the right fit for this role in the market for veteran receivers.
