The San Antonio Zoo Celebrates World Giraffe Day with New Habitat and Conservation Efforts

The San Antonio Zoo is marking World Giraffe Day by showcasing the unique beauty of these gentle giants and raising awareness about the urgent need for conservation efforts to protect them. As part of its ongoing commitment to preserving wildlife, the zoo is currently expanding its Savanna Habitat for its giraffes, with construction well underway to create a 126% larger space.

Cyle Perez, director of public relations & integrated marketing at the zoo, emphasized that the funds generated from ticket sales directly support conservation work for giraffes and other animals around the world. “We are thrilled to be able to provide a larger space for our giraffes and support their breeding program,” he said. “The expanded habitat will enable us to house up to six giraffes in the new barn, providing them with ample room to roam and thrive.”

In addition to the physical improvements, the zoo offers a range of educational activities for visitors to learn more about its conservation projects. Visitors can take part in guided tours, interactive workshops, and behind-the-scenes experiences that showcase the importance of protecting these majestic creatures.

To further engage with the local community, the zoo is hosting Local’s Day on Friday, offering discounted admission tickets for Bexar County residents at just $8. This initiative encourages residents to come and experience the beauty of giraffes while supporting conservation efforts.
