Why are robots becoming more intelligent all of a sudden?

Recently, a video released by Figure, a robotics startup, showcased a man having a conversation with a humanoid robot. The robot described a red apple on a plate in the center of the table, along with a drying rack with cups and a plate, and the man standing nearby with his hand on the table. The man then asked for something to eat, and the robot successfully picked up the apple and handed it to him while explaining its actions.

This demonstration was met with widespread amazement as it showcased the robot’s ability to hold spoken conversations, recognize and manipulate objects, solve problems, and explain its actions. Figure is not alone in producing such impressive robots as there has been a sudden surge in advancements in robot technology. After years of slow progress, robots are now becoming much cleverer.

So what changed to make these advancements possible? Recent breakthroughs in artificial intelligence and machine learning have greatly improved robots’ capabilities. With the ability to process and analyze vast amounts of data quickly, robots can now learn and adapt in real-time, making them more efficient and versatile. As a result, we are now seeing robots that can perform complex tasks that were once thought to be beyond their capabilities.
