The Return of Yealimi Noh in U.S. Women’s Open Spotlights Golfing Prodigy; Hailey Davidson on the Brink of Qualifying as Alternate for Transgender Athletes

Yealimi Noh steps in for Lilia Vu at 79th U.S. Women’s Open as World No. 2 Player

Lilia Vu, currently ranked second in the world, will not be participating in the 79th U.S. Women’s Open due to a back injury that has been affecting her performance this season. Instead, Yealimi Noh, who earned her spot after strong performances at Rainier Golf and Country Club in Seattle, Washington, will take Vu’s place in the event.

Noh, who is making her fourth appearance at the U.S. Women’s Open, won the U.S. Girls’ Junior title in 2018. On the other hand, Vu last competed at the Ford Championship in late March, where she finished tied for 21st place. She had to withdraw from the Chevron Championship in April due to ongoing back issues.

The field for the U.S. Women’s Open will be finalized on Monday with the release of the Rolex Rankings. Alternate spots in the event are generating increased interest this year due to transgender golfer Hailey Davidson narrowly missing qualifying for the event last year. Davidson finished as the first alternate from the Bradenton (Florida) Country Club qualifier and may get another chance if any players withdraw before the event begins.
