The Price of Precision: The Anaheim Ducks Keep Trevor Zegras Out of the Trade Market for Now

Report: Rangers Interested in Acquiring Trevor Zegras, Along with Several Other Teams

Anaheim Ducks forward Trevor Zegras is generating a lot of interest from potential suitors, with the New York Rangers being among the teams reportedly expressing serious interest in acquiring him. According to The Fourth Period’s David Pagnotta, seven other teams are also showing interest in the 23-year-old. In addition to the Rangers, the Buffalo Sabres, Calgary Flames, Chicago Blackhawks, Montreal Canadiens, Nashville Predators, Ottawa Senators and Philadelphia Flyers are all reportedly interested in Zegras.

However, it seems that Anaheim general manager Pat Verbeek has set a high price for Zegras and trade talks are expected to escalate leading up to Friday’s NHL Draft. While a deal may not be finalized this offseason, Verbeek is playing hardball and is not looking to move Zegras at this time. The Ducks had previously denied shopping the forward at the trade deadline after contract talks kept him out of training camp before the season. He ultimately signed a three-year, $17.25 million deal in early October just two weeks before the regular season opener and will not be a restricted free agent until after the 2025-26 season.

Zegras suffered an injury during his 2023-24 campaign that limited him to just 31 games. However, he was able to make a strong comeback upon returning from his ankle injury and tallied eight points in his final 10 games of the season. Since being selected as the ninth overall pick in the 2019 draft, Zegras has played 211 games over four seasons and has totaled 154 points (55 goals and 99 assists) while averaging 17:51 time on ice per game.
