The Oops! Error in the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl Ring: A Humble Reminder of Human Fallibility in Sports

The Chiefs’ most recent championship ring may contain a mistake

The Kansas City Chiefs’ new Super Bowl ring, a symbol of their football excellence, has an unexpected typographical error that has recently come to our attention. The ring contains a mistake in the inner graphic, showing the team’s run to the Super Bowl with their opponents and their seeds. While the purpose of the graphic was to highlight that the Chiefs defeated both No. 1 seeds on their way to winning the championship, they have unwittingly undersold their first-round win by listing the Dolphins as the No. 7 seed when they were actually the No. 6 seed.

The Steelers were the seventh seed and faced the second-seeded Bills in Buffalo in the opening round of the playoffs. It is unclear whether this error is a simple typo in the graphic or if it appears on all of the ornate and expensive rings. While fixing periodic typos is easy for us, rectifying this mistake may prove to be more challenging for the Chiefs. However, we find this error to be a bit comforting as it shows that even pro football teams can make mistakes, just like everyone else.
