A study by Businessfinancing.co.uk has identified the world’s most mispronounced food and drink brands, with a spirit brand topping the list. The study involved searching for various brands on forvo.com, the largest pronunciation dictionary in the world, and determining which food and drink brands are most frequently mispronounced globally.

German herbal liqueur Jägermeister was found to be the most mispronounced food and drink brand, with a total of 256,000 listens on forvo.com. French Champagne Veuve Clicquot came in second with 253,000 listens, while Dutch beer brand Heineken ranked fourth with 141,000 listens. Japan’s Ajinomoto, with 156,000 listens, also made the list along with US brand Budweiser at 128,000 listens.

To compile the list, Businessfinancing.co.uk gathered brands from each country’s Wikipedia page and created a list of 16,875 brands from around the world. Each brand was then searched for on forvo.com to determine the number of listens for each word. The team then identified the brand with the most listens overall and by category for each country. The data was collected and analyzed in March 2024.

The study highlights that while many people may think they know how to pronounce certain words or names correctly, they often struggle when it comes to global brands that have unique spellings or sounds that can be difficult to replicate accurately without proper training or practice.

Overall, this study provides valuable insights into how important it is to understand cultural differences and pay attention to language nuances when interacting with people from different parts of the world.
