The Miami Dolphins’ Ongoing Pursuit of Odell Beckham Jr. as They Look to Strengthen Their Receiving Corps

Mike McDaniel Reveals: Negotiating with Odell Beckham Jr. is Our Priority, but Business Transactions Require Patience

The Dolphins recently met with receiver Odell Beckham Jr., and according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, there is a mutual interest between the two sides. Despite a positive meeting, no deal has been reached yet. Head coach Mike McDaniel spoke about Beckham at the annual league meeting, stating that the visit with the free-agent receiver went well. He mentioned that they made an offer to Beckham, but negotiations take time, especially with a player like Odell who has had a successful career and multiple options to consider.

Beckham missed the 2022 season due to a torn ACL but returned to play 14 games with six starts in 2023. He had 35 receptions for 565 yards and three touchdowns in the regular season, along with four receptions for 34 yards in the postseason. McDaniel expressed his readiness to coach Beckham if an agreement is reached, stating that both sides are working towards a deal and that the conversations will continue.

As the No. 12 overall pick in the 2014 draft, Beckham has had a successful career with 566 receptions for 7,932 yards and 59 touchdowns in 110 games for the Giants, Browns, Rams, and Ravens. Despite his injury setbacks, Beckham still has a lot of football left in him, and the Dolphins are interested in adding him to their roster.

The Dolphins have been actively looking for receivers this offseason after losing DeVante Parker via free agency. They’ve already signed Tyreek Hill from Kansas City Chiefs and have expressed interest in acquiring Justin Jefferson from Minnesota Vikings through trade or free agency.

Despite missing out on Jefferson’s services so far this offseason, Dolphins GM Chris Grier stated he remains confident they will find other quality receivers to add to their roster before training camp begins.

Grier also spoke about his team’s ongoing talks with Odell Beckham Jr., saying “We’re continuing our discussions with Odell.” Grier said he believes there’s still work to be done before both sides come to terms on a deal.

The Dolphins are clearly focused on building up their receiving corps this offseason as they look to compete for another Super Bowl title next season.
