The Legal Limbo of Gaza Refugees in Egypt: The Struggle for Education, Healthcare and Survival Amidst a Complex Migration Crisis

Over 115,000 Palestinians from Gaza relocated to Egypt after October 2023

Egyptian company, Hala Consulting and Tourism, has been instrumental in facilitating the arrival of over 115,000 Gaza residents into Egypt since the beginning of the Iron Swords war. While some of these individuals seek medical care for injuries sustained in the war zone, many others have come as tourists. However, once their 45-day tourist visa expires, they become illegal immigrants and are not eligible for education and healthcare services in Egypt. The Palestinian refugee aid agency UNRWA is unable to assist them due to Egypt’s failure to acknowledge its mandate over Palestinians on its soil.

This legal limbo leaves these individuals in a difficult position as they struggle to navigate their new circumstances without access to essential services like education and healthcare. The situation highlights the complexities and difficulties faced by Palestinian residents of Gaza seeking refuge or opportunities in neighboring countries like Egypt. Despite these challenges, many Palestinians continue to flee Gaza in search of safety and opportunity elsewhere.
