The Giant Green Anaconda that Measured 6.3 Meters: A Tragic Loss for Biodiversity.

Giant Snake Found Dead in the Amazon: The Largest in the World – Explorersweb

In February, researchers working on a National Geographic series called Pole to Pole with Will Smith stumbled upon something incredible. Blood and tissue samples revealed that the southern green anaconda and the northern green anaconda were actually two distinct species, with a five-and-a-half percent genetic difference between them. Ana Julia, one particularly large individual identified as a newly discovered northern green anaconda, was found to be the largest snakes on the planet. The snake measured an astounding 6.3 meters in length and weighed 200 kilograms.

Ana Julia was a mighty, powerful animal that had been swimming in the rivers of Bonito for decades. Biologist Freek Vonk, part of the research team, shared the heartbreaking news of the snake’s demise on Instagram. He described Ana Julia as being in excellent health and able to continue thriving and reproducing in the years to come. However, it is now known that she has tragically passed away in Brazilian rainforest. The loss of such a magnificent creature is a significant blow to biodiversity, especially for this rare species of giant snake.

Rumors have circulated that Ana Julia may have been shot, but this has not been confirmed yet. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding her death while wildlife photographer Cristian Dimitris confirmed her identity by comparing unique markings on her face – akin to fingerprints.
