The Ghostly Legacy of Cloud-Based Video Games: What Happens When You Die?

Is it possible to inherit cloud-based video games purchased and played?

As video games continue to evolve, more and more of them are being purchased through cloud services, which require users to have a personal account. However, what happens to these games when the account owner dies is a major concern. Unlike physical format games, cloud gaming allows users to play through remote servers without needing physical disks. Companies like PlayStation, Xbox, and Ubisoft offer cloud gaming platforms where users can purchase and store games in their personal accounts.

However, accessing these games is subject to the conditions set by each service provider. When it comes to what happens to purchased games after the account owner dies, there are different policies in place depending on the company. For example, Valve, owner of Steam, does not allow the transfer of accounts or game libraries even in the case of death. The games become obsolete and inaccessible once the account owner is no longer able to use the service.

Similar policies are maintained by other major video game companies like PlayStation, Xbox
