The Extraordinary Story of a Four-Year-Old’s Love for Letters and How It Turned Him into the World’s Youngest Author

Eleanor and Ervin Patrick, both educators, noticed their four-year-old son Bryan’s fascination with letters and words when he was able to spell complex words like “axolotl.” This sparked a love for letters that became central to all aspects of his life. Bryan’s parents supported his ideas, from family trips to the Alphabet Museum to themed birthday parties where he dressed up as a superhero of his favorite letter, ‘B.’ They even helped him create an alphabet garden in their backyard.

Despite being in preschool, Bryan has already mastered skills typically expected of older children. His reading fluency, knowledge of letter sounds, ability to count and even skills in multiplication and division usually taught in third grade have left his parents amazed. Bryan is self-taught and guides his own learning process, typing out the alphabet every night on the computer until he eventually completed a full book in just one month.

To achieve his goal of becoming the world’s youngest author recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records, Bryan’s family is hosting a book launch party in New Bern. They aim to sell 1,000 copies of his book. Despite facing competition from another four-year-old author, Bryan remains determined to break the record and his family supports all of his accomplishments and creative endeavors.
