The Evolving Focus of the World Economic Forum: 50 Years of Leadership and Legacy from Klaus Schwab

Founder of the World Economic Forum, Klaus Schwab, to step down from executive position

Klaus Schwab, 86, has been leading the World Economic Forum (WEF) for over five decades and is closely associated with it. The organization was previously known as the European Management Forum and began as a small event with fewer participants in Davos compared to the large numbers it now attracts. Today, the annual WEF meeting in Davos sees attendance from numerous world leaders and CEOs, with over 50 heads of state present in 2024, as per reports from the organization.

The Forum is run like a family business, with Schwab’s children holding key positions and his wife Hilde overseeing the foundation and award ceremonies in Davos. In recent years, there has been a noticeable shift towards the center in the Forum’s focus, moving away from liberal politics as reported by Semafor. This evolution reflects the changing landscape of global business and politics.
