The Distinguished Gentlemen’s Ride Brings Men Together to Promote Mental Health Awareness

Hundreds Gathered in Bristol for a Motorcycle Event to Raise Awareness for Men’s Mental Health

The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride recently took place in Bristol, with hundreds of motorcyclists participating to raise awareness about men’s mental health. The event saw more than 350 riders donning dapper attire and riding classic and vintage motorcycles as they journeyed from Winscombe to Saltford. Organized by Sean Good, who has been hosting the event for the past 11 years, the ride was part of a global campaign in support of Movember, an organization dedicated to men’s mental health and prostate cancer awareness.

Sean Good, a veteran who has served in multiple conflict zones, understands the importance of mental health support and views biking as a form of therapy. This year, the Bristol riders raised an impressive £19,437 towards their £20,000 goal, highlighting the strong commitment to promoting men’s mental health awareness through fundraising and action. The Distinguished Gentlemen Ride started in Bristol in 2014 with just 15 participants but has grown significantly over the years. Good emphasized the importance of breaking stereotypes and encouraging men to open up about their mental health struggles. By participating in the ride and working towards a common goal, riders found a supportive community that resonated with them.

Movember aims to achieve tangible outcomes for men’s mental health and prostate cancer awareness as these issues continue to be significant health concerns for men worldwide. Suicide remains a leading cause of death for men aged 20-39 while prostate cancer is the most common cancer affecting men. By raising funds during this event, participants are taking action towards promoting men’s mental health awareness while also supporting those affected by these conditions. Overall, events like these help break down stigmas surrounding mental illness and encourage open conversations around important topics like suicide prevention and seeking help for prostate cancer.
