The Comeback Kids of Texas Secure Their Place in the Women’s College World Series

Texas earns spot in Women’s College World Series alongside 3-time defending champ Oklahoma

The Longhorns of Texas emerged victorious in the Austin Super Regional against Texas A&M, securing their spot in the Women’s College World Series. Despite losing the series opener on Friday, Texas showed resilience by coming back to win in extra innings on Saturday. The Longhorns defeated No. 16 seed 6-5 in the decisive Game 3, ultimately winning the series 2-1.

Throughout the super regional, Texas and Texas A&M battled it out in close games, with each game being decided by just one run. Other teams that advanced to the World Series on Sunday included Florida, Duke, Alabama, and Stanford. Duke’s victory marked the program’s first qualification for the World Series in its seven-year history.

In the World Series, Texas will face Stanford, Alabama will play UCLA, and Florida will take on Oklahoma State in the opening-day matchups at Devon Park in Oklahoma City. Additionally, defending champion Oklahoma will face off against Duke, which will be seeking its first national title.

Alabama held off a late rally by Tennessee to win the Knoxville Super Regional while Duke and Florida also managed to hold on to their leads against Missouri and Baylor respectively to secure their spots in the World Series.
