Alexander De Croo, the Prime Minister of Belgium, is taking steps to save Audi Brussels from closure and protect the 3,000 jobs at the car factory. In response to Audi’s decision to eliminate 371 temporary jobs in Vorst due to decreased demand for the Audi Q8 e-tron model, De Croo will hold a meeting with government officials and Audi’s top management to find solutions that will ensure the future of the factory and its employees.
There is uncertainty about the production of a new model to replace the Q8 e-tron in Forest, with indications that it may be built in Mexico instead. To prevent a closure of the factory, De Croo plans to set up a task force with regional prime ministers and Audi’s leadership to explore options such as training support, subsidies, and energy cost reductions. The politicians are also considering providing guarantees to Audi through a ‘letter of intent’ even if a caretaker government is in place due to upcoming elections.
The goal of this collaborative effort between the government and Audi’s leadership is to use all available resources to support Audi Brussels and its employees, ensuring the continuation of operations and job security.
