The Battle for Cardinals’ No. 79: Phil Hoskins vs. Josh Jones and More

The Cardinals’ season opener against the Bills is 79 days away.

The Arizona Cardinals are now just 79 days away from their season opener, which will take place on September 8th in Highmark Stadium against the Buffalo Bills. As they continue their countdown to the start of the 2024 NFL regular season, the team’s current No. 79 is defensive lineman Phil Hoskins.

Hoskins spent time on the practice squad last year and played in five games, starting one. Despite having eight tackles in 124 defensive snaps, he will need to fight for a spot on this year’s roster. However, he has shown promise and could be a valuable asset to the team if given the opportunity to play more.

The Cardinals’ previous impactful No. 79 was tackle Josh Jones, who was drafted in the third round in 2020 and played in 47 games before being traded to the Houston Texans last year. While he may not have met expectations as a longtime starting tackle, Jones made an impact during his time with the team and will be missed as he moves on to a new organization.
