The Arrest of Dr. Udi Beharev: A Tense Moment in the Israeli Medical System

Unusual threat made by Chairman of Medical Association following arrest of protester’s doctor in Israel

In an incident that has caused unrest in the medical system, a doctor who provided first aid to an injured woman at a demonstration was arrested despite wearing a luminous doctor’s vest recognized by the Israel Police. The attending physician, Dr. Udi Beharev, was held on a bus, interrogated and accused of various claims based on filmed footage. No action has been taken against the policemen who used violence against him.

Prof. Hagai Zion, Chairman of the Medical Association, sent a letter to the Minister of Health threatening a doctors’ strike if action is not taken against the police officers who used violence against Dr. Beharev. He emphasized the importance of providing medical treatment in all circumstances and urged the Minister of Health and the Israel Police to take the incident seriously.

Health Minister Uriel Bosso also expressed concern over the incident and called for an investigation to ensure it does not happen again. Dr. Beharev reassured his colleagues that despite the arrest, he remains strong and committed to providing care. He encouraged them not to be afraid and to continue their work. Protests from various organizations and individuals have condemned the violent arrest and called for justice to be served.

The incident has sparked outrage among medical professionals who are demanding accountability for those responsible for using violence against doctors while performing their duties.

In response to these demands, Prof. Zion urged that policemen involved in such incidents should face disciplinary action or even prosecution under Israeli law.

As a result of this incident, many doctors are questioning their safety while working on duty in public spaces where protesters gather.

The situation has become even more tense as protests from various organizations and individuals call for justice to be served.

Dr. Beharev’s case highlights the need for better communication between medical professionals and law enforcement agencies in order to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.

It is hoped that this case will serve as a wake-up call for those responsible for enforcing laws in public spaces where peaceful protests take place.

As we move forward, it is important that we prioritize safety for all members of our community, including medical professionals who put themselves on the line every day to save lives.
