The Appointment of Prince William as Colonel-in-Chief of the Regiment: Another Blow for Harry’s Relationship with the Royal Family

William: the role King Charles gave instead of Harry

The British Army Air Force has announced that Prince William will be taking over as Colonel-in-Chief of the regiment from King Charles in August 2023. This decision comes after Charles’ refusal to meet with Harry during his recent visit to Britain, marking the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games. Despite landing in Britain and giving a speech at St Paul’s Cathedral, none of the royal family members attended the event.

The appointment of William as Colonel-in-Chief of the regiment has caused tensions within the royal family, particularly for Harry, who was supposed to meet with his father to discuss matters but was refused due to a “full schedule.” Harry was once a member of the regiment and should have been given the position if he had not left royal life in 2020.

Both William and Harry are trained military pilots, with Harry serving in Afghanistan until 2014. During his service, he was praised for his excellence as an Apache pilot and inspired those around him. On the other hand, Prince William served as a search and rescue pilot and air ambulance pilot.

This decision by Charles marks another difficult moment for Harry, who is already dealing with strain from his complicated relationship with his father and brother. The lack of support from the royal family adds to this stress, particularly given that it occurred on an important anniversary for him. It remains to be seen how this decision will impact their relationship moving forward.
